THE WEATHERED OAK CARVED MIRROR

This has to be one of our favourite pieces. It’s striking, it’s beautifully carved and it’s certainly a statement piece.

This carved and detailed circular frame is made of solid weathered oak so the colour is not over powering or too dark for such a large piece. At just over a metre in diameter, this mirror needs to take centre stage so we suggest placing it in a living room with soft neutral tones and splashes of colour. You can see our styling suggestions in the images above.

The most impressive feature of this mirror has to be the perimeter carving. Hand carved into solid, thick oak, it is incredibly intricate and very effective. You can see a close up view below.

Less is more

For sun-washed, breezy coastal interiors, think crisp linens, and washed, weathered oak furniture, teamed with soft sea blue tones. To create that picture perfect room, stick with a simple colour palette. Soft beige to match the sands, gentle blue tones to echo the sea and the sky, and maybe even some light greys for that pebble effect. Neutral colours are great but don’t forget that you can never go wrong with a super simple white. With a white blank canvas you can easily mix and match with accessories throughout the seasons.

Or if white isn’t quite doing it for you, switch it around and go a little crazy! The Ikat design which you can see on the cushions below, is a huge trend right now and fits the summer styling perfectly, so you can stay uber fashionable as well as creating the ultimate beach retreat.

If redecorating a whole room isn’t feasible, then just add a touch of coastal chic to your outside area, like we’ve done below. Lovely for a relaxed evening after a day beside the sea.

Bring the outdoors inside

light wood To pull off this coastal chic, there needs to be a subtle blend between your homely comforts and the outdoor items that make you love the seaside. We’d recommend light, sandy coloured wood for the key furniture pieces. It keeps the room light and bright and looks more natural than heavier darker furniture. A washed weathered oak side table or coffee table could be the key piece to bring the look together. The matt, white oiled finish evokes sand and sunshine. To compliment the look, add other smaller wooden pieces such as a mirror, photo frames or even a ship’s wheel if you want to make it really authentic!
